I’ve been talking about the five steps to get into work you love.
Step #1 – Know the “real you”. Read about that by clicking HERE.
Step #2 – Embrace the “real you”. Read about that clicking HERE.
Step #3 – Understand how being the real you will help solve the problems of others. (I’ll talk about that is this blog.)
Step #4 – Find somewhere that will embrace the “real you”, where you don’t have to hide it…. I’ll talk about that next time.
Step #5 – Set an action plan to get from here to there. I’ll talk about that in two weeks.
Let’s talk about Step #3, which is how to turn your natural born talent (your uniqueness), into money…
If you followed Step #1 and #2, you would know exactly what your Given Talent… what within you makes you unique because of your unique way you process information in your mind.
despite what the personality tests try to tell you.
And once you’ve understood your uniqueness (the real you), then Step #2 is to embrace the unique nature of just being you. Remember, just because something comes easy to you doesn’t mean it’s not valuable to others. In fact, that’s the very reason it is valuable to others… because it comes so easily to you.
Now it’s time to figure out how to translate this uniqueness into a career. You do that by understanding how your uniqueness (your Given Talent) solves problems for others. Let’s use Jack as an example.
Jack is someone who loves to tackle a challenge as a member of a team. When he encounters a challenge, he tackles it using the same instinct every time. First, he takes an inventory of all the details, including the emotions of the others participating in the challenge. This isn’t just scanning for the details. He consumes the details, including the a complete emotional inventory of fellow team members.
Then he’ll get a picture in his mind of how to maximize the inventory of people and things, using his intimate knowledge of those details. With the picture in his mind of how it could lay out, he watches as the team tackles the challenge to see if is unfolding in the most efficient way as he pictured in his mind. If things are unfolding as he had pictured, he lets it go forward. If it doesn’t unfold in the most efficient way, he uses his intimate knowledge of the details to act as a catalyst to propel the team.
The end result is predictable… Jack teams are almost always high performers, and team members love their time on Jack’s team.
Jack has always operated like this, even as a kid. It’s not something he learned in school. He’s always been this way because it’s blue Jack, no matter how much might try to deny it. He absolutely loves life when he’s using his Given Talent.
That’s actually very simple. The question for Jack to ask himself is, “What kind of jobs would I be able to solve problems just being myself (that team guy). Let’s revisit Jack to see how this works.
When Jack went through The Clarifier with us, he realized what predictably happens almost every time is he is a part of high performing teams. But he’s not the leader… he’s more the silent guy in the back that’s invisible until the team needs him.
this natural ability of his?
One of the obvious jobs is project management. A really good project manager isn’t just someone who knows how to use MS Project or some other project management software. He or she intuitively knows how to keep things moving without taking over projects that others are responsible for.
That’s one of the jobs Jack would be a natural at. He is a natural because that’s how his mind is naturally inclined.
It actually is very simple to find jobs that fit you and that you’ll enjoy. But make sure you really know the real you before you even attempt to find that job.
